ENCLOSURE 1.

WHEREAS under the Working Agreement for Through Goods Traffic between the Canton-Hankow Railway, the Chinese Section of the Canton-Kowloon Railway and the British Section of the Canton- Kowloon Railway it has been found desirable to make certain amendments to the agreement, it is hereby mutually agreed between the three Administrations under Article 37 of the agreement to make the following amendments:-

After Article No. 13 insert:-

"Article 13 (A). The exchange rate between Chinese

National currency and Hong Kong currency for the calculation of payments to be made under Articles 11 and 13 shall be the "Current Rate of Exchange" being the average selling rate of exchange between Chinese National currency and Hong Kong currency as obtained daily from the Bank of China, Hong Kong, for the period from the 16th of the preceding month to the 15th of the current month. "

Delete Article No. 18 and substitute:-

"Article 18. Each Railway shall send periodically to the other Railways an ample supply of its own rates schedule for Transit Traffic. All rates for transit traffic originating at stations on the Canton-Hankow Railway shall be quoted in Chinese National currency and all rates for transit traffic originating at stations on the British Section of the Canton-Kowloon Railway shall be quoted in Hong Kong currency. These schedules shall be drawn up in Chinese and English and posted conspicuously at each station."

Delete Articles Nos. 19 and 20.

Delete Article No. 21 and substitute:-

"Article 21. The sharing of transit rates between the Railways shall be according to the regulations provided below:-

(i). The Chinese Section of the Canton-Kowloon Railway and the Canton-Hankow Railway, shall receive from the British Section of the Canton-Kowloon Railway their appropriate shares in Hong Kong currency as laid down in their Transit Rates Schedules, of all Transit receipts collected by the latter Railway.

(ii). The Chinese Section of the Canton-Kowloon Railway shall receive from the Canton-Hankow Railway its appropriate share in Chinese National currency as laid down in its Transit Rates Schedule, of all Transit receipts collected by the latter Railway.

(iii). The British Section of the Canton-Kowloon Railway shall receive from the Canton-Hankow Railway its appropriate share in Hong Kong currency as laid down in its Transit Rates Schedule, of all Transit receipts collected by the latter Railway.
